What’s next for Jacksonville’s
parks system?

The City of Jacksonville, in collaboration with GAI Consultants, is updating the Jacksonville Parks Master Plan to shape a 10-year vision for the future of the City's parks system. This plan will offer recommendations and action steps to enhance, expand, and sustain Jacksonville’s parks, trails, and recreation facilities, ensuring continued high-quality recreation opportunities for the community.

The updated Master Plan will assess the current and future needs of the parks system while addressing key priorities like social and environmental resilience, climate adaptation, and strengthening social cohesion through community connections and engagement.

Why is investing in our parks key to
Jacksonville’s future?

The City of Jacksonville aims to update its Parks Master Plan every 10 years to respond to evolving social and demographic trends, climate adaptation, resource management, emerging priorities, and new developments.

The last Master Plan was completed in 2003, and since then, population growth, park usage, and demand for facilities have significantly changed. This new update offers a valuable opportunity to re-evaluate the parks system and engage the community in sharing their thoughts, needs, and vision for the future of Jacksonville Parks.

When can we expect key milestones for the parks project to be reached?

Phase one of the Jacksonville Parks Master Plan was completed in 2022, where the project team evaluated the current conditions of the park system and outlined key improvement priorities.

Phase two began in January 2023, focusing on shaping an initial vision and framework for the park system’s future. Once the vision is finalized, public input will be gathered to help refine the draft Plan and its recommendations.

The final Master Plan is expected to be completed by Winter 2025.

Stay tuned for all the updates!  You won't want to miss out!
